ARCAIKOS The land where the Saga of the Chyrons is set.

The CHYRONS are invisible, random, elemental forces that add their energy to worsen natural disasters, e.g., they are attracted to a storm which then becomes severe and potentially, worsens to a hurricane if they can absorb more negative power. Similarly, they turn earth tremors into severe earthquakes. Floods, drought, wind, volcanic eruptions, tornados, wildfires, and all types of weather can be affected. If they are left unchallenged, the land will decay under their onslaught and eventually return to the chaos of the void.

The VELETA are descendants of some of the original people brought to Arcaikos by the Spirit Baryn at the Beginning. They have the supernatural power of telepathy and can use and manipulate ELEMENTAL POWER, which is present everywhere in Arcaikos. They use it to control and calm the Chyrons and so avert disasters. They form the ruling class and are elitist. All rulers must be able to help prevent Chyron attacks on their people and their property.

BELENUS WARDYNE is the only son of RHODRI WARDYNE and CELEMON OF THE VYSE. He has severe personality complexes brought about by being bullied and humiliated because of his lack of ability to control the elemental power and the Chyrons. He believes he should have inherited these abilities and he deeply resents the isolation and rejection he suffers in his early life, from his family, his contemporaries, and the Veleta. He grows up to become a paranoid, cruel, jealous, and violent tyrant. He overthrows his father to become ruler of Cazam Goral, is responsible for the death of his first wife, NYA OF THE AVENTINE, by neglect. After visiting Sulya, searching for a way to restore her to life, he steals the HEART OF SULYAN, an evil and  dangerous relic and founds the CULT OF SULYAN to replace the Veleta, who he hates with a passion. He partakes of the Heart of Sulyan, hoping for immortality and added powers.

DRYSTYN WARDYNE is the son of Belenus and NYAOF THE AVENTINE and has inherited the powers his father lacks. He has similar complexes, being influenced by his father’s examples of misogyny and vicious cruelty. He hates his father whom he blames for his mother’s death. He has a cadre of contemporaries called theOATH TAKERS, who are very wary of him for good reason. He works actively to find out how to destroy his father, who has partaken of the Heart of Sulyan and cannot be killed. He has also partaken.

IGNATIUS OF CONDORIA is Belenus’ Master Guardian in Cazam Goral. A highly trained ex-Veleta of mysterious origin and secret lover of Nya. He has partaken of the Heart of Sulyan. He is a one-time pupil of the sorcerer CARADOC DEWIN. He helps Belenus establish the Cult of Sulyan.

ANSGAR OF VIKNA IN OSTRAVA is a debauched, bisexual, violent thug whom Belenus blackmails to ensure his cooperation. He becomes Belenus’ bodyguard and is then appointed as Lord Warden, head of his army. He is loyal to Belenus.

NYA OF THE AVENTINE is a well-known, revered mystic and a powerful member of the Veleta. She brought peace and calm and had prophetic powers. She took on the role of a respected ambassador sent by the other rulers of Arcaikos to persuade Belenus to stop the violence and killing. When she refused to marry him, he forced her to become his wife/consort and she died of neglect, after giving birth to Drystyn.

BECUMA OF SULYA is an Immortal who rules Sulya, a mysterious oasis city in the far southern desert. She monitors the elemental power on behalf of REYA, SPIRIT OF THE EARTH. She is unable to learn how to behave correctly, as she has few emotions, but she copies human behavior, often misinterpreting its subtleties an this causes problems. She is naïve, spiteful, selfish, and uncaring, and performs experiments on children  and pregnant women out of curiosity and for her own amusement. She is a notorious seductress and is behind many of the problems that reverberate through this Saga.

ELYNOR OF THE DRUANTIA is the younger daughter of RIOC, RULER OF MOYDICA. She becomes the second wife of Belenus Wardyne and is the sister of FARON OF THE DRUANTIA. She too is forced into a miserable, violent marriage with Belenus and bears him three sons, HYWEL, GWYTHYR AND IESTYNOF THE DRUANTIA.

Gwythyr’s alias is GIRALT OF THE DRUANTIAand after spending time as a sailor becomes Ruler of Moydica. Iestyn's alias is ALED OF THE DRUANTIA, and he works for GOVRAN OF THE HUATH.

FARON OF THE DRUANTIA is Rioc’s youngest son who becomes Ruler of Moydica after Belenus kills his father and brothers. He is the brother of Elynor, Belenus’ second wife and lover of JAC OF THE CAELAN/DRUANTIA,who is ELENI CAELAN’s brother.

CAI OF THE CAELAN was kidnapped as a small child from Condoria Biarma when Ansgar raided the city and killed his uncle the ruler and others in his family. He was brought up in Cazam Goral and trained to a prominent level by Ignatius, who recognised his prodigious powers at an early stage. He is a contemporary of Drystyn and was fed lies about his family by Belenus throughout his life. He was led to believe that his mother, MAIR OF THE CAELAN,killed his father JON CAELAN and ran away with the renegade sorcerer CARADOC DEWIN. He is half-brother to RHIANNON CAELAN and THE TRIUNE. He is one of Drystyn's Oath Takers. Once he meets his real family, he changes his allegiance and leads the opposition to the Wardynes. He is married to ELENI CAELAN, and they have five children.

ACELYN TRYDUANA is a contemporary of Drystyn and Cai. He is from the family who owns most of the shipping in Arcaikos and consequently controls trade and sea transport. He is the ruler of the fortress of Velez. He is wary of Drystyn; a good friend of Cai’s and is another Oath Taker. He is married to YSELLA TRYDUANA.

BRIEC OF THE EYDIS is a mystic and healer based in Melis. He is also a good friend of Cai’s and a member of the Oath Takers

ALARIC WARDYNE is a jewellery merchant based in Corach, a distant cousin of Drystyn and a member of the Oath Takers. 

DARIC OF THE VYSE is a trader and dealer, also based in Corach and a member of the Oath Takers.

GOVRAN OF THE HUATH comes from a family of Vintners in Virisia. He loves food and drink but is a shrewd and trusted businessman. He is a member of the Oath Takers

ELENI CAELAN is a highly regarded HAELAN (healer) and alchemist and secretly, a member of the High Veleta. She married to Cai. and is sister to Jac.

MAIR OF THE CAELAN is a very high-ranking Veleta, formerly married to JON CAELAN, the brother of the ruler of Condoria Biarma. Cai is their son. She later marries CARADOC DEWIN, and they have four children: the triplets ANEIRA, VEVINA AND GANIEDA CAELAN, known as THE TRIUNE and RHIANNON CAELAN.

CARADOC DEWIN (CAELAN) is an exceptionally powerful, renegade sorcerer, who reappears with his family after a mysterious twenty-year absence. He claims to be searching for the labyrinth that guards the source of the elemental power. He does not support Belenus or the Veleta and secretly stays connected with Ignatius, a former pupil.

ANEIRA, VEVINA AND GANIEDA CAELAN - THE TRIUNE. Becuma damaged the very strange triplet daughters of Mair and Caradoc before birth in a calculated fit of spite by adding Chyron characteristics to their personalities. They have one telepathic mind in three bodies. They are very powerful but naïve, impulsive, cunning, and wild and cause a lot of trouble. They are sisters to Rhiannon and half-sisters to Cai. They pursue Drystyn Wardyne for sexual gratificationhaving once seduced him.

RHIANNON CAELAN is the youngest daughter of Mair and Caradoc. She is very powerful. She is the sister of the Triune and half-sister to Cai. She marries HYWEL WARDYNE/DRUANTIA, the second son of Belenus and they have four children: BALENDIN, BRANOC, AERONWY AND ANGHARAT. Her alias is NESTA OF THE DRUANTIA.

HYWEL WARDYNE/DRUANTIA; is the eldest son of Belenus and Elynor and half-brother to Drystyn. Potentially very powerful and the same age as Rhiannon Caelan, he is brought up away from the Wardynes and trained in secret with Rhiannon in Melis by Briec. His alias is MORGAN OF THE DRUANTIA. When they become adults Hywel and Rhiannon marry and have four children:

ARZAHLIA CAELAN is Caradoc Dewin’s estranged sister, and leader of a breakaway group of powerful High Veleta, who try to seize control of the source of elemental power from Becuma, incurring the wrath of the Earth Spirit Reya. She is the mother of IGNATIUS, conceived during her short affair with RYN AVENTINE, a mystic from Sulya. She abandoned the baby in Helos.

JAC OF THE CAELAN/DRUANTIA is the mentor and lover of Faron, ruler of Moydica whom Faron appoints as his Master Guardian. He is Eleni Caelan’s brother.

CYRAN and THEA are companions and guards for Elynor.

RHYD OF CONDORIA is Ignatius’ son whose mother FFION was killed out of jealous spite by Becuma. He guards Belenus when Ignatius goes travelling.

SIANA EYDIS A Senior Haelan and High Veleta living secretly in Melis. A very good friend of Briec, and a colleague of Mair Caelan and BRYLUEN CAELAN (OF EBORA VERDE).

LUCIUS WARDYNE is Belenus’ uncle, minor noble and trader in gold and gems in Corach.

GRIG and HAUL are untrained and over-promoted retainers left behind at Cazam Goral when Ignatius left.

Alwena marries MOSTYN Their child is CIARA (THE YOUNGER) She was also stolen and taken to Cazam Goral and later becomes the GUARDIAN ROSALYNDE.

Theo and Rosalynde marry, and their child is RHIANA.

CAITLYN marries GWLLUM HUATH, and their son is DYLAN HUATH.

DARYLIS CAELAN marries RHISSART. Their daughters are

Darylis and Rhissart’s second daughter is CARYS CAELAN who marries MORCANT OF THE CAELAN, the leader of the ARLYN, (REBELS) who oppose the Wardynes in Arcaikos.

BETHAN, Sister of Morcant, is married to BRAITH CAELAN,ruler of Condoria Biarma and their children are BETSAN AND IEUAN.

BRANWYN CAELAN is also a sister of Morcant, and she marries RIAGAN, a friend of Morcant and Caderyn. Their son is LLYR. She later has another son named DRAVEN.

After the death of Rhissart, DARYLIS CAELAN marries MATHONWY CAELAN, and their son is Owyn. Owyn is stolen and taken to Cazam Goral to be brought up by D’Alneto.

MEAGAN CAELAN is Darylis’ jealous sister who marries GORONWY WARDYNe. (Brother of HUW AND MOINA WARDYNE) They change sides and live in Cazam Goral where Goronwy becomes Master of Arms. They change their names, as is the custom, to FULK AND MEGANNE DE ROUX.

SEREN is a young orphan girl who Darylis finds when she is searching for her lost son Owyn. She adopts her and teaches her Veleta Skills.

AIDEN OF LESSINGHAM. is a renegade Guardian who rescues a group of orphaned boys who are severely traumatised and brings them to D’Alneto. 

D’Alneto assesses each one and finds them of high-ranking birth, having the ability to communicate telepathically. He changes their names and if they survive his training, intends to use them against his enemies. Renamed, they are

The title of Book Three, The Immortal Caelan, refers to all members of the Caelan family who have partaken, willingly or not, of the Heart of Sulyan.
