MORE ABOUT THE SAGA OF THE CHYRONS

The Saga of the Chyrons is a dark, complex and fast-moving story of revenge, courage, trust and betrayal that spans generations. It is set against potential and real environmental disasters where rulers and cults vie for power and dragons hide desperate secrets. The narative continually springs surprises and plot twists. The story is told over nine books and is an epic tale encompassing a desperate struggle for power amongst the rulers of Arcaikos, set against a background of sorcery and outside forces slowly destroying a land intended to become a paradise by its creators. 

The early inhabitants of the land  found it was  blighted by Chyrons, invisible elemental forces that add their unlimited energy to natural events turning them into disasters. Historically, the Chyrons  came under the control and were suppressed by the Veleta, a gifted sect able to wield the ever-present elemental power to maintain calm and increase prosperity. However, in the years preceding the birth of Belenus Wardyne, natural events like storms, wildfires and earthquakes often became more severe because the Veleta had sunk into complacency. At first, changes occurred slowly but as time passed, ancient cities such as Kurion became uninhabitable because of the Creeping Cold and the population of Sulya was decimated by sand storms, disease and drought. Deserts encroached in the south,  half burying Sulya and causing the city of Peryalis to be abandoned when its water supply failed. 

To counter their decreasing popularity and overcome by a thirst for power, some ambitious members of the Veleta tried to shift control of the elemental power from its guardian, Becuma, in Sulya, to the Veleta sanctuary on the Isle of Lallant, This angered the Spirits and the entire Veleta cult was punished by an alarming reduction in their powers and knowledge.  

This event unfortunately coincided with the sudden rise to power of the despised and violent psycopath Belenus Wardyne, the  son of the ruler of of Cazam Goral who unfortunately had been born without the nececessary power to control Chyrons. He sought revenge on the other rulers of Arcaikos, who had reviled and bullied him during his childhood and schooldays. Having caused the cruel death of the only woman he ever wanted, the beautiful and mysterious sorceress, Nia of the Aventine, Belenus wandered aimlessly through distant lands until he met Becuma of Sulya, a 'lovesick' immortal, who revealed a secret relic in return for his favours. Belenus stole the relic, The Heart of Sulyan, and partook of it, (ate a small part) in a dark ritual inspired by being shown hidden wall paintings from the distant past. Becuma told him it would give him longevity, additional powers and promised eventual immortality. This appealed to him because he had not inherited the ability  to control Chyrons and therefore protect his people, but more because he craved power and sought any means to bring back Nia, whom he desired and wished to control.

The evil relic, which regenerated after anyone partook, soon grew in power, seducing others, including some Veleta, to partake, causing violence, mistrust and fear to spread. 

Belenus and his Master Guardian Ignatius, set up the Cult of Sulyan, little realising that their ceremonies and relics were providing dark power to the Chyrons and encouraging more frequent disasters. A long civil war, known as the Terror, ensued as Belenus insisted and enforced the active compliance of all the people in the cult's ceremonies. 

The Dragons, living a parallel existence in this land and having a different mindset from the people, at first refuse to share their knowledge to aid the Veleta because they live in fear of a great secret being revealed to the partakers of the Heart. The remaining Veleta can only hope that the old prophecy concerning the coming of the Osanë (Saviours ) will happen soon , enabling them to defeat the partakers and redstore the land.

After years of persecution, the remaining Veleta, led by some of the Caelan family, who had been living in hiding, decide to fight on, convinced they can overcome the evil that is destroying their land.  Other lost relatives also take action, which increaes the dangers. Bravely, they all set out on individual quests to discover ways to destroy partakers and the Heart but they meet with great danger, betrayal and misunderstanding wherever they go. 

The occasional reappearance and misguided actions of the Triune, three very unsettling, naïve but cunning young sorceresses with one joined mind and limitless power, is a recurring threat. Their constant interference has far reaching consequences and as their power and unpredictability grows, their actions bring unprecedented danger. 

As time passes, the evil relic, the Heart of Sulyan, continues to grow in power, beguiling more people to partake and further destroying trust and relationships. The Caelan family and their allies must overcome this treachery, destroy Belenus and his son Drystyn and control the Triune before they too succumb to the evil influence of the Heart. Then they can use their elemental powers against the Chyrons to save the land.

Meanwhile, the Chyrons continue to cause irreversible damage to the country by enhancing  storms, floods, wildfires and earthquakes with increased severity.  Increasingly, the land is in danger of returning to the chaos out of which it was created and the origins of the Chyrons and why they are present in a supposed paradise remain hidden.

Can the Caelan, the Veleta  and the Dragons put their hope in the coming of the Osanë and the fulfilment of the ancient prophecies to save this benighted land and finally achieve the promised paradise envisaged by its creators or will Arcaikos finally succumb to the inevitable distruction and disappear into the void?
